Today I went to the new Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh to see the new exhibit Deep Surface: Contemporary Ornament and Pattern. I had not yet been to the new museum which opened in April of this year, but was astounded by the beautiful architecture of the building and the gorgeous modern interior. The exhibit did not disappoint either, as there were beautiful examples of graphic design, architecture, fashion and home furnishings. I loved the eclectic examples of pattern and found it a great example of where it can be found. Art, pattern, and ornament are not solely a part of ornamental rugs or patterns on clothing, they are seen everywhere, in design, architecture, and simple every day objects. If you have any interest in design, this is a must see exhibit, as well as a must see building.
